Talking Points & Resources

This episode continues the Traffic Time vlog discussions, where we have been chatting about drone laws and perceptions at the national level.

If you have not seen it, you may want to watch OPG’s Traffic Time Vlog #1 and #2.  There a bit long, but provide some good background information on drone cases and trends in the national and state drone legislation.

I am NOT a lawyer, lobbyist, legal expert or Subject Matter Expert  in this field.  These are just my thoughts. My personal research and reasoning.

For Traffic Time, Episode #3, we take a deep dive into the recently presented Drone Federalism Act of 2017.

Voluntary Best Practices for UAS Privacy, Transparency, and Accountability

The U.S. Department of Commerce’s National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) has published best practices to address privacy, transparency and accountability issues related to the use of unmanned aircraft systems (UAS).  The development of this
best practices document was an effort between the private sector and the NTIA to develop practical standards.

Theses voluntary best practices are common sense, and serve as good reminders for all commercial and recreational pilots to be responsible:

  • INFORM OTHERS OF YOUR USE OF UAS
  • SHOW CARE WHEN OPERATING UAS OR COLLECTING AND STORING COVERED DATA
  • LIMIT THE USE AND SHARING OF COVERED DATA
  • SECURE COVERED DATA
  • MONITOR AND COMPLY WITH EVOLVING FEDERAL, STATE, AND LOCAL UAS LAWS
  • Covered data” means information collected by a UAS that identifies a particular person

You can download the full PDF document from the NTIA website here.

Talking Points & Resources

This episode is a continuation of the premier Traffic Time vlog, where I spent a lot of time reacting to that famous YouTuber, Casey Neistat’s reveal that he was being investigated by the FAA.

If you have not seen it, you may want to watch OPG’s Traffic Time Vlog #1 – it sets up what I am talking about here.  You can find the YouTube video    here.

For Traffic Time, Episode #2, we are going to take a look just a few of the events over that last 5 years or so that got us sUAS pilots into this hot mess.

In The concluding minutes of Traffic Time #1 came down to this:
How do we avoid feeling like a criminal every time we fly?
